Marilyn works for Yakima Valley Memorial as a Nurse Manager for Nurse Family Partnership at Children’s Village. She supervises a team of 8 nurses, providing home visits to first time moms and their family. Marilyn loves working with young moms and babies, supporting them to be the best mom to their baby and set goals for their future. She also provides leadership at Children’s Village in the areas of Child Abuse and Neglect and Infection Control. She worked as a School Nurse at Harrison Middle School for 5 years, from 1999-2004, and enjoyed working with middle school students.
Marilyn grew up in Wapato, and moved to Sunnyside in 1985 when she married her husband, Henry. They have 2 grown children (Adrian and Analisa), who are both married and live in the greater Portland area.
Marilyn serves on various home visiting coalitions and boards, at the local, state and national level. She wants to assure that families receive the support they need as they raise their children. She believes parents are their child’s first and most important teacher. She serves as the Safe Church coordinator at her church, Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church, which helps equip the church in abuse awareness, prevention and response. She recently volunteered with Medical Teams International to provide free COVID-19 testing throughout Yakima County, focusing on underserved communities. She has served as a nurse with relief efforts after natural disasters, with the most recent being to Beaumont, Texas after Hurricane Harvey in 2018.
Marilyn enjoys cooking, reading, exercise and hiking in her free time.
