Kick Butts Day

“Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco.” Kick Butts Day was officially on March 15, 2017, but activities can vary year round.

The SHS Prevention Club did a variety of activities in their fight against tobacco in 2017, which include;

1) Creating Visual anti-smoking messages throughout the school. Check out the video here!

2) Completed a three-hour training on how to take down tobacco, how to give retail education, and how to survey stores to note tobacco industry’s marketing and placement in stores.

3) Students and Sunnyside United Unidos coalition members talked to 25 Retail Stores in Sunnyside and gave them a short Tobacco Education Retail Training that stressed the importance of checking IDs, having correct signage, and other laws concerning tobacco and vaping products.

4) The SHS Prevention Club received a scholarship to attend the Spring Youth Forum in Grand Mound WA, May 16th-17th to present their “Taking Down Tobacco” activities.
